Gofio is one of the most ancient foods of the Canary Islands since its origin dates back hundreds of years. For many generations it was the food of the poor and served as sustenance in times of famine. Currently, it continues to be the basis of the diet of many canaries, although with a better reputation since it was granted the Designation of Origin in 2014.
